The science is obvious: the earth is warming at an unprecedented rate and man-made carbon emissions are the main cause. The probable impacts of climate change are also well recorded and past forecast such as more intense heat waves and sea level rise are starting to materialize. Todovale’s strategy is not only to adapt, but also to take advantage of our expertise to provide solutions. Indeed, we’re well equipped to assist to the understanding of climate change through our risk management skills, the research we fund to address climate-related risks and the immense number of claims data we collect. In addition we have a duty to spread knowledge about new risks. Via our underwriting decisions, we can additionally show the risks the society is taking and encourage prevention actions to mitigate them. Finally, through our significant investments, we are also well positioned to send the right signals to the investment community and to the specific companies we invest in. More specifically, our strategy presently includes the following initiatives :

• Investments: investing in green assets, climate risk analysis with a long-term view; climate-related shareholder engagement, divesting from certain carbon-intensive industries (oil sands and coal),
  Insurance: underwriting restrictions on the oil sands and coal industries, “green/sustainable” products in both Casualty & Property and Life & Savings ranges, promotion of recent insurance solutions designed for developing countries (usually parametric insurance);
• Insurance: underwriting restrictions on the coal and oil sands industries, “green/sustainable” products in both Property & Casualty and Life & Savings ranges, promotion of new insurance solutions designed for developing countries (typically parametric insurance);
• Operations: direct environmental footprint goals covering carbon & energy emissions, paper and water;
• Through leadership, NGO partnerships, academic research (Todovale Research Fund), public / private partnerships to encourage prevention.
